Barbara Vaughan Witcher passed away peacefully at the Ivy Hill Nursing Home in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, October 24, 2008. She was born February 20, 1938 to the late John and Bernice Vaughan. She was preceded in death by her husband Raleigh W. Witcher Jr. and her oldest son Raleigh W. Witcher, III.

Barbara joined the Byrd Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She attended the public schools of Fluvanna, VA and graduated from LaSalle College. She worked and retired from the Philadelphia Public School System after many years of faithful service as a librarian.

She is survived by her youngest son, Keith Markel Witcher; four grandchildren Unique Witcher, Markel Witcher, Destiny Witcher and Micheal Jones all of Philadelphia, PA; three sisters Gloria V. Lyles of Charlottesville, VA, Janice V. Binford and Joan V. Turner both of Goochland, VA; mother-in-law Ruby L. Witcher of Charlottesville, VA; one brother-in-law David Quarles of Pleasantville, NJ; five sisters-in-law Minnie Vaughan of Fort Worth, TX, Barbara W. Lloyd, Ellie W. Shackelford, Janice W. Martin, Clarissa W. Bell and her husband Phillip all of Charlottesville, VA and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 30,2008 at 11am at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church with Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
