Harvey G. Brown Sr. departed this life on Monday, October 28, 2013 at University Virginia Hospital surrounded by friends and family. He was born, January 11, 1931 to the late Chauncey Edward Brown and Lucille Washington Brown in Advance Mills, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Roberta Swift Brown of 41 years; 2 sisters Marie and Ruby, 4 brothers William, Edward, Raymond, and Charles.
Harvey graduated from Albemarle Training School. He also attended Virginia Sheriff Institute. He served in the Korean War , and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in October1953. After his military service he was a culinary educator at the University of Virginia for many years, and later retired after 30 years as a security guard.
Over the years, he received awards, certificates and recognitions. He graduate of the International Detective Training School. A member of International Association of Investigators and Special Police. A member of the American Legion. He was the site Captain for Voters Registration 2012. Through out his life he volunteered at many establishments. Some of his favorite pastimes were riding his moped, trading watches, writing poetry, estate sales, and attending After Five. He is survived by four sons Byron Swift(Angela) Bowie, Md., Harvey Brown Jr. (Mary) San Antonio, TX., Chester Brown ( Esther), Dallas, TX , Robert(Bobby) Brown, Charlottesville, Va. and five daughters Cecelia"CeeCee" Brown(John), Charlottesville, Va. Terry James, Richmond, Va, Ruby Davis (Earl) Corpus Christi, TX, Valerie Barfield (Eric), Richmond, Va., Vivian Brown, Richmond, Va. ,a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Hubert Brown, and Howard Brown, and sister Pearl Evans-Blakey and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Reverend Chauncey Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. He will lie in repose at the church one hour to the services.
