Booker T. Reaves, Jr. “BT” of Mitchellville, MD died peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 25, 2014, surrounded by loving family. Son of the late Donna and Booker T. Reaves, Sr., he was born on November 12, 1946, in Charlottesville, VA.
BT, as he was affectionately known, joined The Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church of Charlottesville at an early age. Educated in the public schools of Charlottesville, he was a 1965 graduate of Jackson P. Burley High School, and received his B.S. degree in Accounting from Howard University. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. After college, Booker worked briefly in the private sector before transferring to the Federal government where he worked for over thirty years. He retired in 2003 as a loan officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC.
Booker was a lover of classic antique cars, enjoyed driving his Cadillacs and traveling. After retiring, he spent many of his days attending to his lawn and sitting on his front porch reading the newspaper with his dogs in his lap. A practical joker, BT was known for his larger than life personality and candid conversation. He could find humor in any situation.
He was preceded in death by his son, Booker T. Reaves, III.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Woodard Reaves; his daughter, Kristin R. Chisam and husband Sean; and grandchildren, Brooklyn and Sean "AJ" Chisam of Greenbelt, MD. He is also survived by two sisters, Karen R. Hundley and husband William of Fredericksburg, VA and Julia R. Green of Charlottesville, VA; his aunt, Mrs. Laura Reaves Robinson of Charlottesville, VA and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, 105 Lankford Ave., with Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the services.
