Lena M. Brown, 85, of Charlottesville, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the University of Virginia Hospital.

She was born January 13, 1923, in Ivy, Virginia to the late Vernon Dabney Maupin and Susan Gross Maupin.

In addition to her parents, Lena is preceded in death by her loving husband, Burnlee “Ike” Brown, three sisters, Fannie Maupin, Verna Maupin and Mary Maupin Wright and a brother, William “Bill” Maupin.

Lena leaves to cherish her memory: one sister, Sarah (Billy) Wilson of Ivy, VA; four children, Dora Brooks of Charlottesville, VA, Rose (Louie) Burrell, Jr of Hickory, NC, Vernon Brown of Waynesboro, VA and Sherman Brown of Jarret, VA; nine grandchildren, Bridgette Brown of Charlottesville, VA, Lavelle Brown of Arizona, Kimberly Brooks of Lanham MD, Raymond (Tara) Brooks II of Greensboro, NC, Robert Burrell III of Hickory, NC, Tonya Brown of Charlottesville, VA, Natasha Brown of Charlottesville, VA, Vernon Brown Jr of Waynesboro, VA, and Jermaine Burrell of Hickory, NC; two sisters-in law, Bessie Maupin of Ivy, VA and Geneva Brown of Copiague, NY and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, 105 Lankford Ave in Charlottesville at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 E. Rio Road, Ste 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901 and the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville,VA 22901.
