Lawrence Johnson entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 7, 2008 at a local nursing home. He was born July 15, 1928 to the late Ina Johnson, also preceded in death by his step father, Junius Jones; one sister, Carolyn Johnson; two sons, Robert L. Johnson Jr. and Edward F. Johnson; two Grandsons, Tobyn Ross, and Michael Childress. He is survived by three sons, Alvin L. Johnson, and wife, Joyce of Orlando, Florida, Wayne L. Johnson of Richmond Virginia, and Clinton T. Johnson and wife, Sherita of Charlottesville, Va.; two Granddaughters, Christi Johnson, and Melissa Hedgeman of Charlottesville Va.; two Grandsons, Mickey Childress, and Nathan Harper; his devoted Ex-wife, Evelyn C. Johnson of Charlottesville, Va.; one very close and devoted cousin Iva Henderson; and a host of other cousins, and friends. Lawrence graduated from Esmont High School at the age of 15 and entered into the United States Army in October 13, 1950. While serving in the Armed Forces he received the Korean service medal with three bronze stars. As a Horse Groomer by trade Lawrence was employed by Nydrie Stud in Esmont, Va., and until his retirement he dutifully pursued his job, which was grooming and traveling with the horses. He attended Sand Road Baptist Church faithfully until his illness worsened and prevented him from attending service. His favorite pastimes were lawn work and gardening. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2008 at the J.F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, in Culpeper Virginia.
