Robert Roosevelt Jones, Sr., 78, of Albemarle County, Virginia went on to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was the son of the late Roosevelt and Frances Jones. He was the husband of Mabel Evelyna Jones with whom he had enjoyed 57 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Jones, a brother, James Jones and a son-in-law, William F. Washington. His formal education was received through the Albemarle County School System and he became a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He possessed a quiet strength and a calm presence. His favorite pastimes were playing baseball, bird watching and listening to Country music. He leaves to cherish his memory in addition to his beloved wife, Mabel; three sons, Robert Roosevelt Jones, Jr. and wife, Virginia, Melvin Jones and wife, Sharon, and John Richard all of Charlottesville, Virginia; five daughters, Delores Thompson and husband, Alvin, Patricia Washington, Sheryl Loeser and husband, Eldridge all of Charlottesville, and Faye Jones Page and husband, Herbert of Richmond, VA., and Mary Jones of Fluvanna County, VA.; two sisters, Arlene Scott of Charlottesville and Josephine Mitchell of Washington, D. C. ; three sister-in-laws, Azellia Hughes and Shirley Brown of Charlottesville, VA and Edith Peterson of Costa Mesa, California; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held a 12 noon on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Gatlin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services.
