Michael Carter, 53, of Charlottesville, Virginia died on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Charlottesville on March 4, 1955 to the late Edward Carter Jr. and Viola Carter. He was the husband of Frances L. Carter.

He was educated in the Albemarle County school system, participated in the Job Core and received training as an Auto Mechanic. He was a self- employed drywaller. His first love was fishing, he loved taking care of his grandchildren, enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, and enjoyed being around family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tavion Carter; a brother in-law, Purcell Anderson and a sister in-law, Irene Carter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Frances L. Carter; two sons, Tremaine Calloway, Michael Massie, and a step-son, Curtis Johnson; two daughters, Keisha Calloway, Lawanda Calloway, three stepdaughters, Shareka Johnson, Darleen Jonson, and Tanza Jones; eleven grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Anderson, Penny Carter, Pamela Carter and Dorrine Jacques and husband, Carl Lee Jacques, Sr. all of Charlottesville; three brothers, Edward Carter Jr., Richard Carter, and Larry Carter all of Charlottesville; three aunts, Betty Smith and Anne Swingler of Charlottesville, and Deanna Smith of New York; one uncle, Clarence Smith of Charlottesville; three sister in-laws, Betty Jones and husband, Joseph, Annette Brock, Sharon Nelson and husband, Curtis Glover all of Charlottesville; three brother in-laws, Raymond Brock Jr. of Maryland, Gregory Brock and wife, Roshetta of Danville, and Barry Brock of Charlottesville; two devoted friends, Gwendolyn Hawkins and Hilda Massie of Charlottesville; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at the J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Loretta Wyatt officiating.
